The Blooming Currents of Oklahoma artist Chad Mount will be showcased from 7 to 11 p.m. Friday at MidwestMedia Studio, 1614 N. Gatewood. On display through August, the exhibition focuses on pieces inspired by the ocean abyss, and a film on Mount will debut at the event, part of the monthly Plaza District’s Live on the Plaza festival. Festival alert! From noon to 10 p.m. Saturday at the 1700 block of N.W. 16th, it’s the Plaza District Festival, with live music, more than 40 artist booths, hourly dance performances, Kidapalooza art projects, a live mural painting, a Velvet Monkey Salon fashion show, food vendors, three beer tents, a Bigfoot calling contest ... and oh, yeah: shopping! So thriving is the Plaza District, all it needs now is an iron lung. Perhaps it will settle for the band My Iron Lung, touring with like-minded experimental-hardcore act Troubled Coast. The groups will play at 7 p.m. Monday at Bad Granny’s Bazaar, 1759 N.W. 16th, alongside spoken-word artist Trey the Ruler, metro-based Our Sky Is Falling and Norman hip-hoppers Dare We Say, Pioneers. Who is Jamie Pettis, you ask? She’s an artist new to OKC, so naturally, her first solo exhibit in town is titled I Am. Containing 14 Prismacolor pencil portraits, the show can be seen from 7 to 11 p.m. Friday at Velvet Monkey Salon, 1701 N.W. 16th, during the Plaza District’s Live on the Plaza, and will remain on display for the rest of the month.
