City officials are scheduled to give a presentation regarding biking and walkability from noon to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Oklahoma City Community Foundation, 1000 N. Broadway. Tickets are $10 for the Urban Land Institute Oklahoma’s event, “Moving Toward A Walking/Bike Friendly City.”

No matter what health statistic is considered, Oklahoma City generally does not fare very well. It has higher rates of obesity, diabetes and heart disease than most of its peer cities. No doubt some of that can be attributed to personal decisions, but some of it is due to our built environment. We have built a city that, in most areas, makes travel by walking and cycling more difficult than driving a vehicle.
