Studies in fast food

Sonic Corp. breaks ground on a test kitchen at its Bricktown headquarters.

Food and Drink Features

Devon Green
Sonic Corp. is one of those companies that many Oklahoma City natives forget is local — until, that is, one ventures down to the Bricktown Canal and sees the company’s huge corporate headquarters at 300 Johnny Bench Drive.

Blues and barbecue go together like wine and cheese, Simon & Garfunkel and legs and eggs — which is to say, each is good on their own, but they’re even better when paired with one another. Bricktown Blues and BBQ Festival features some of the finest local offerings in each of these departments, which you can see/hear/taste for yourself 4 p.m.- midnight Friday and 2 p.m.-midnight Saturday on the corner of Sheridan and Oklahoma avenues. Admission is free. Call 236-4143 or visit bricktownokc.com.

Bricktown 4th Fest

OKG7 things to do

Gazette staff

We like our things big here in America — everything from our football stadiums to our McDonald’s. That also includes our fireworks shows, and you won’t find one bigger than the one at Bricktown 4th Fest. The event attracted about 5,000 people last year to the iconic district just east of downtown OKC, and with an array of live music, food and cold beverages, this year’s promises to be bigger and better. The party begins 4 p.m. (with fireworks at 9:30 p.m.) Friday in Bricktown, at the corner of Sheridan and Oklahoma avenues. Admission is free. Call 236-4143 or visit bricktownokc.com.

OKG eat: Cool places, cooler drinks

OKG7 Dining

Devon Green

We know. It’s hot. It’s summer in Oklahoma. Cool down by sampling cocktails that local bars and restaurants have concocted just for you. Find a nice, air conditioned space or a shaded patio and while away the hours drinking the flavors of summer. You might decide it’s not that bad after all.
