Deceitful dentistry

CFN

Gazette staff
As if going to the dentist isn’t scary enough — what with all those outdated waiting-room magazines and those stainless steel instruments of torture and the dental hygienists who ask you questions while they’re carving God-knowswhat into your choppers — you can also worry about whether that dentist is a fake.

Thunder-yuck

CFN

Gazette staff
Thunderstruck boasts more than just the distinction of marking the big-screen debut of OKC Thunder superstar Kevin Durant. The film, an alleged comedy in which the Durantula’s basketball skills are inadvertently swiped by a school kid, might just be the first-ever family-friendly movie to include an appearance by an accused child molester. Granted, there was that John Wayne Gacy cameo in 1974’s Herbie Rides Again, but we’re told you’ve gotta look really fast for that one.

Hug it out

CFN

Gazette staff
While it might be an event with good intentions, National Free Hugs Day, slated for Tuesday on the University of Oklahoma campus, sounds a tiny bit unsettling to us. Sponsored by Paul Mitchell Partner School in Norman, stylists will be doling out free hugs to folks who want one and handmade “Free Hugs” signs for those who don’t really want to get all super-friendly.

CFN

We hear a lot about Republicans around here. Sometimes, we even hear about Democrats. Two parties: That covers it, right?

The Smoking Section

CFN

Gazette staff
Nothing can ruin a nice family meal like a cigarette butt in a burrito. Just ask Norman and Jennifer Dyches of Wetumka. The couple filed a complaint after their son Wesley began choking on his burrito at a Taco Bell in Sand Springs. Tucked amid the lettuce, cheese and 88-percent beef, there was also “smoking debris,” according to a report filed by police.

Newspeak

CFN

Gazette staff
One of the legacies left by 1984 author George Orwell is having his name describe how totalitarian governments can use language to distort words, so much so that words or phrases could actually end up describing the exact opposite of what they purport to mean.
