Why does the standoff between Gov. Mary Fallin and the Affordable Care Act remind us of the battle between Sylvester and Tweety Bird?

A shameful turn

Letters to the Editor

Kevin Acers
When Gov. Fallin announced that Oklahoma will not participate in the expansion of Medicaid under the provisions of the Affordable Care Act, she revealed political cowardice and recklessness of judgment. She may as well have proclaimed of our state’s low-income citizens, “Let them eat cake.”

The Odd Couple’s Felix Unger and Oscar Madison didn’t have anything on President Barack Obama and U.S. Sen. Tom Coburn of Muskogee. The Democratic commander-in-chief and the Republican lawmaker have nearly nothing in common politically, but the two have been friends since they were freshmen senators in 2004.

The last laugh

Letters to the Editor

Jon Parker
I read David Hull’s tirade on President Obama’s economic record (Letters, “Demonizing rich people, May 1, Oklahoma Gazette) on Friday, May 3. That was the day it was announced that we had added 165,000 jobs in April, and the February and March numbers were revised upward by 114,000 jobs, bringing unemployment down to 7.5 percent. It was also the day the Dow and S&P 500 closed at all-time highs.

The I-word

CFN

Gazette staff
It’s been a rough few weeks for the Obama administration, what with a couple of scandals — some more legitimately scandalous than others — rocking the nation’s capital and consuming the 24/7 cable news cycle.
