Mama Sinmi’s Chop House offers you everything but a plane ticket when it comes to West African fare.

Restaurant Reviews

Greg Elwell
Mama Sinmi’s is an intimate dining room with a handful of tables and a sprawling mural of Africa on the wall (along with a Post-It Note imploring visitors to keep their hands off it). Order at the counter, but take your time. The menu can be daunting..

Document it

OKG7 things to do

Gazette staff

We here at Oklahoma Gazette love documentaries because they deal with real issues (just like we do). Oklahoma City University also loves them, which is why its annual Documentary Film Series is now in its 16th year. Check out Emma Joan Morris’ 1993 Sundance favorite Something Within Me 2 p.m. Sunday at OCU’s Kerr McGee Auditorium, NW 27th Street and McKinley Avenue. Admission is free. Visit okcu.edu/film-lit.

Kyle Reid & the Low Swinging Chariots - “When I Was Young”

Joshua Boydston
Every artist should be the star of their own creative life, which makes Kyle Reid’s steps out of the shadows of the many ensembles and supporting roles he has played in Oklahoma bands over the years to front and center on stage feel like a just journey.

OKC Fest

OKG7 things to do

Gazette staff

We have seen our fair share of festivals here in OKC, but as far as headliner-worthy names go, we haven’t seen anything like OKC Fest. Dierks Bentley? Lady Antebellum? Merle freaking Haggard? Yeah, OKC Fest has them. The music, food and family-friendly fest starts Friday and runs through Saturday near Myriad Botanical Gardens, 301 W. Reno Ave. Tickets to the main stage events are $35. Call 866-977-6849 or visit okcfest.com.
