Opera it

OKG7 things to do

Gazette staff

If you’re anything like us, your opera voice is usually reserved for the shower. Not so for Barbara Caprilli and Rob Glaubitz, assistant professors of voice at the University of Central Oklahoma School of Music. See them perform separate one-act, one-man operas “Bon Appetit” and “A Water Bird Talk” 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the UCO Jazz Lab, 100 E. Fifth St. in Edmond. Tickets are $10. Call 974-5004 or visit uco.edu.

’80s it

OKG7 things to do

Gazette staff

There were a lot of things about the ’80s that weren’t necessarily cool (parachute pants, anyone?), but the movies that came out in that otherwise-awkward decade were pretty awesome. Exhibit A: John Hughes’ comingof-age story Sixteen Candles.

See the Brat Pack classic 7 p.m. Tuesday at Harkins Bricktown Cinemas, 150 E. Reno Ave. Call 231-4747 or visit harkinstheatres.com.

Flute it

Let’s be honest here; the flute is one sexy instrument. No one knows this better than Emily Butterfield, associate professor of flute at the University of Central Oklahoma School of Music, and few play the woodwind better. See Butterfield perform in concert 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the UCO Jazz Lab, 100 E. Fifth St. in Edmond. Tickets are $10. Call 974-5004 or visit uco.edu/cfad/events.

Walker Ave., featuring history lessons, a Spokies bike history tour, tours of City Hall and, yes, birthday cake. Admission is free. Call 297-2578 or visit okc.gov. See our 125th Anniversary weekly series story on page 28. Also, check out our Spokies story on page 43.
