Brian Parton & the Nashville Rebels

OKG7 things to do

Gazette staff
As a member of Tulsa punk band The Bridge Climbers, and having performed with Brian Parton & the Nashville Rebels, Phil Seymour, Steve Pryor and Dwight Twilley, Dave White has contributed to the modern incarnation of the Tulsa Sound as much as anyone. White is in the midst of a battle with cancer, and the Nashville Rebels are reuniting after a more than 10-year hiatus for a benefit concert in White’s honor. The show starts 9 p.m. Sunday at VZD’s Restaurant & Club, 4200 N. Western Ave., with The Oh Johnny! Girls opening. Admission is free, but a $10 donation is suggested. Call 524-4203 or visit

White knight

Era-defining guitarist Jack White kicked off his solo tour Thursday night at Tulsa’s Cain’s Ballroom.

Joshua Boydston

Jack White has always been something of a time traveler. The first notes that crept out from those early days in Detroit were carved out of the best and brightest pockets of ’60s garage rock. And by the time "Seven Nation Army" grew into a cultural phenomenon in 2003 (one that you'll still hear marching bands charming the crowds at high school football games with today), Jack White had reconciled modern alternative with classic rock 'n' roll in a way few bands have ever come close to matching.

The concert begins at 8:30 p.m. Thursday, with fireworks at approximately 10 p.m., at Entertainment Plaza in State Fair Park, 3001 General Pershing Blvd. Admission is free. Call 842-5387 or visit
