The health department and local officials and organizations help teens struggling with addiction through programs and prevention tactics.
“If you are worried about getting into treatment, this is the easy way in,” Nayfa said. “It’s keeping families together. It’s keeping people employed. It’s keeping people out of the criminal justice system. It is pretty amazing what treatment can do.”
“It is so important that they learn to have fun without getting high or drunk,” Maddox said. “That’s the challenge. For so many, that’s what they did.”
Though marijuana is a hot topic in Oklahoma, the state’s most dangerous drugs aren’t necessarily found on the street.
