Oklahoma’s Kids Belong helps foster children tell their stories in their own words and connects them with forever families.
There are around 2,000 children in foster care in Oklahoma County.
“Peppers Ranch is a community of like-minded foster parents,” said Tonya Ratcliff. “There are 13 houses at Peppers Ranch, and each one is rented by a foster family who must have a minimum of five foster children.”
“There were plenty of times where the outlook was grim,” said Erin Engelke, Sunbeam Family Services chief external relations officer. “But then someone would step in and help Sunbeam keep the doors open.”
The program currently serves children in Cleveland, McClain, Pottawatomie, Garvin, Seminole and Lincoln counties.
The Come Around EP includes ZHU guitarist Mitch Bell, Horse Thief drummer Alberto Roubert and hip-hop artist Jabee.
In addition to its Back 2 School event, Citizens Caring for Children allows foster children four visits for clothing each year.
Faith communities in the state help Oklahoma Department of Human Services provide for children in foster care.
