Possibly a
tiny, historic downtown area full of shopping and places to eat, plus a
1960s beach-themed party, prizes, sales and an ice cream truck!

Enter Downtown Edmond Krazy Daze, which will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday.

A cherished annual tradition, the family-friendly event is celebrating its 50th year. Krazy Daze began when Hoot Gibson, owner of McCall’s (21 S. Broadway; 348-2400), needed to clear out some inventory and offered a sidewalk sale on some of his seasonal selections.

Other businesses began to participate, and the event grew into a downtown mainstay. This year, along with shopping, Roxy’s Ice Cream Social and Kona Ice will serve up cool treats to ward off the summer heat. There will be a dunk tank, and The Wise Guys will perform live rock music in the evening.

Start your shopping spree at Silver Leaf Gems (19 S. Broadway; 285-9700) to get some bling for your buck. The jewelry shop carries affordable necklace and earring sets and Thunder-themed pieces, as well as a variety of styles and collections that will suit just about anyone.

If you’re with the family, stop in at Cinnamon Bears (102 S. Broadway; 330-2327), a shop especially for babies and children. Have an expecting mom you still haven’t shopped for? It’s the perfect time to check out Timi & Leslie diaper bags or load up on cute seasonal outfits for the young ones in your life.

If
the kids are a little older, Edmond Summit Company (100 N. Broadway;
513-5050) should be on your list of stops. It’s a menagerie of all the
hiking and outdoor activity gear you could imagine. Or start a new
family tradition that includes outdoor sports.

Downtown
Edmond has some fantastic antique shops, too. Broadway Antique Mall
& Market (114 S. Broadway; 340-8240) and Edmond Antiques (17 S.
Broadway; 471-5555) are two options right on the downtown strip offering
special Krazy Daze discounts.

You’ll
probably get hungry at some point. If so, enjoy a meal at Italian Jim’s
Restaurant, 13 S. Broadway; Othello’s Italian Restaurant, 1 S.
Broadway; or Vin Dolce, 16 S. Broadway.

Park
your car Saturday and walk around downtown Edmond. Help celebrate this
golden anniversary and partake in all the discounts and deals. Let’s
shop, OKC!
