Parents: Is your elementary school kid moonlighting as a building contractor?
Science Museum Oklahoma’s recently installed “Building Buddies” exhibit gives children a hands-on opportunity to learn about building and maintaining homes.
The exhibit is geared toward children up to age 7, with a number of activities to keep little ones entertained for hours.
“They are all over the conveyor belt,” said Sherry Marshall, Oklahoma Museum Network director. “It’s really, really popular. They take the conveyor belt, move the bricks up, and then it loads into a chute.”
Visitors can “paint” a wall using only a paintbrush and light, climb scaffolding and move bricks, lay grass, assemble pipes and tile a bathroom on a model home.
“It’s a great place for kids to get their feet wet with things around a construction and decorating theme,” said Marshall. “It’s a really good exhibit for logic and problem-solving skills, which are critical for a young learner.”
For kids to look the part while they work, they can don supplied tool belts and construction hats.
“Building Buddies” continues through Feb. 25 at Science Museum Oklahoma, 2100 N.E. 52nd. Museum admission is $9.95 for kids ages 4-12 and $11.95 for adults.
